LIM Challenge - Sentiment Focus

I really love the Less is More Challenge for several reasons, including:
It's all about Clean and Simple cards, which are my favourite style.
It's inspiring me to use stamps and techniques that I've never used before and to try out new ideas.
Best of all, it's creating a lovely supportive community of LIMettes, many of whom take the time to visit each other's blogs and leave comments. I'd like to thank all those of you who visited this blog last week and left encouraging comments. I really do appreciate it.

Anyway, this week's challenge is to make the sentiment the focus of your card, and I leapt into this with great gusto, as I have several sets of sentiment stamps that have yet to see a whiff of an inkpad. So much gusto in fact that I've ended up making three cards and I can't decide on one to submit for the challenge, so I'm going to list all three. To be honest, I've slept on these and now am not quite so sure about any of them, so if you do feel like leaving a comment, I would appreciate some constructive criticism. So, taking a deep breath (and once again apologising for my poor photography), here goes with attempt number one:

The sentiment is from a really cute Inkadinkadoo set of Kids Quotes, which fits neatly into the frame created by the Cuttlebug Embossing Folder. To give a little taste of chocolate, I stamped the small cupcake from an Elusive Images set and coloured it with my Prismacolor pencils.

For card number two, I used Tim Holtz stamps and embossed with a Nestability die:
I wanted to keep the background image very subtle so used a pale chalk ink for that one, which sadly doesn't show up very well in the photo. I'm not entirely sure that the image fits in very well with the sentiment, which suggests something rather more chaotic to me, but I didn't have anything suitable that would fit in with the CAS theme.

I've used another Tim Holtz sentiment for the third card:
This one would also fit in with last week's theme of A touch of Red. I used a different embossing folder for this one and I picked out the heart with a glaze pen, so it's glossy in real life. I'm not sure about the ribbon and bow on this one. I think it may be a little too dominant.
I'd be really interested to hear what anyone else thinks, but even if you don't leave a comment, thanks for looking.

Fantastic ways to have the text as a focal point. Great cards x

It's really interesting to read your critiques of your own work, and much of what you have commented about is spot on. For example, the first one has a funky font and a classic flourish frame, which don't match up too well. The second one, which has a beautifully soft and gentle flourish both in colour and style is twinned with a big bold sentiment, the two of which actually don't sit too happily together, as you so rightly commented.
I think that the third one is probably the most successful and the vividness of the heart is fine as it is in fact an important part of the sentiment itself.
It's brilliant that you are being so self-critical it can only lead to good things!
Well done you and thanks for so many submissions!

I love the first one, not keen on the second (but remember that this is just me), and love the third but agree about the ribbon not being necessary. Hazel x

Daisy, I love that you've given it 3 tries...I ended up with 4 cards! On the first card, I think the embossed frame is AWESOME...but the cutesy sentiment doesn't seem to go with it and I would probably have left the cupcake off.

On the second card, I agree that the stamp might not have be the best choice although I do love the softness of the card.

On the third card...You nailed it! I love the sentiment with the bright red heart, the font of the sentiment seems to "go" with the embossing...and I love the bright red ribbon! (although, you might not have needed the ribbon if you could have embossed the same design that is on the right side).

I struggle with these challenges every week...and I think we've all improved as we go along!

What i really want to know is HOW did you get such a fabulous image in the centre of your cards with embossing folders?

I have the top embossing folder and every time i try to do something like this i get lines all round the embossing... Perhaps you could do a tutorial... Pretty please:-)

Now back to your lovely cards, all three are fabulous but for me your first card has the edge. Think it might be the chocolate... and of course the cake with a perfect heart.

Lots of hard work and all very well done:-)

Hello Daisy, thank you for to visit my blog...well, i thik you are a realistic woman with your work and very corageous for to accept constructive criticism, because all opinions are SUBJECTIVES, each cardmaker have a different vison to the art.
Your embossing is so beautiful, very good technique, i think you are a specialist.GOOD JOB.
My english is very horrific, i hope you can understand me.

I like your 1st and 3rd cards best. I also like your 2nd but felt the sentiment is too dark against the beautiful soft colour. I love your various embossing folders, the sentiments fit really well in them. x
